In Y12 Women's Epee, Y10 fencer Zoe Kim had a rough time in pools, but showed up strong in her first DE with a decisive 15-2 win. She then fenced the eventual Gold Medalist and lost 5-15 but tried some new things and didn't give up! Great job! Sometimes in fencing, it isn't always about winning because you have to learn how to lose to learn to win and also learn from your mistakes or weaknesses. but lost to the #12 nationally ranked fencer 14-15, Darius Kim fought well and finished 22nd. Allez Fencing Studio fencers did well as well. Chester Thompson in his 2nd tournament ever, placed 32nd and won his first DE out of 46 fencers. Thien Scofield, our littlest Y10 fencer, fenced well and fought hard. He was down 7-2 in his first DE, came back to tie it 12-12 and lost 12-13. What a fighter! In Y10 Women's Epee, Zoe Kim fought hard all the way to the finals and was down 1-7 to come back 6-7 to lose 7-10 but way to fight! She takes home the Silver medal against a tough opponent! She has come a long way and we look forward to the growth of all our fencers! In Y14 Men's Epee, Jonathan Oh did great for his first Y14 tournament and went 3-3 out of pools to lose his first DE but he learned a lot for a y12 fencer! Darius Kim fenced well, went 3-2 in pools, won his first DE and lost to get to top 16 by one point to one of the top Y12 fencers in the nation! He also earned his first Y14 national points which trickle down to his Y12 standings! Great job! Also, Ryan Lee fenced hard and came home with the Bronze after losing to the eventual Gold medalist! He fenced well and learned some great lessons. It was a pleasure to coach them all and I look forward to their future successes.

This post was deleted accidentally so here are the results from the first epee of the scholastic league which was held at Chaminade High School.
I was able to see a lot of growth from all fencers as it was not based on fencers' clubs but rather their school affiliations. It was a pleasure to coach students from both Allez and Swords and to see such great results in some of their first scholastic league competitions! For the High School Men's Epee event, Thomas Moore started the day strong with only one loss out of the pools, but he ended up losing in the round of 16 to a lefty fencer. He finished a strong 9th out of 43 fencers! Keep up the good work! For the High School Women's Epee event, Lexiss Morgan went undefeated in pools and fought valiantly in the final against a higher rated fencer and lost a close 14-15 bout! She placed 2nd out of 22 fencers! Great job! For the Middle School Men's Epee event, we had several fencers in a fairly large field of competitors. Jonathan Oh fenced against his teammate in the 16s in a close bout against Rowen Hicks losing 12-15 to finish 10th out of 30 fencers, ages ranging from 11 to 14. Darius Kim also lost against his teammate Max Zhu to make the top 8 and finished in 9th. Rowen Hicks kept going and lost a close 14-15 bout to make the finals so finished in third overall. Christopher Dekermanji, at only 11 years of age, fought a close bout against a tough lefty in the 8s, 15-14, to make the semis to lose to another one of his teammates as well. He finishes in third as well. Great job boys! For the Middle School Women's Epee event, Natalie Leung had a rough time in pools, but she regained her composure and won the entire tournament, earning her E17 and she has only been fencing less than a year! Great job! Congrats to all the fencers, their famililes, and their coaches. Keep up the hard work and we look forward to seeing the future successes to come! Full results can be found here. Great job to our fencers and stand-in coach, Rowen Hicks, for filling in for me at the Shazam Slam in Arizona last weekend! In Y10 Men's Epee, Andrew Moore did a great job in pools and beat the eventual Gold Medalist 5-1, but lost in the DEs to finish 5th overall! Great job! Nicholas Hicks fenced in his 2nd RYC ever and won his first DE to finish 8th overall! Excellent job boys! In Y14 Men's Epee, Rowen Hicks came out of pools in 3rd and had a hiccup in DEs losing to finish 9th overall! He had a great start to the day and many new lessons learned with a greater desire to work harder. In Cadet Men's Epee, Rowen Hicks also fenced hard and had a rough day in pools, but won his first DE 15-14 and then lost his second DE to the eventual 3rd place finisher, 14-15, to place 14th overall! Great job! He also did a great job helping the little ones in Y10 as I was unable to attend. Great job boys! Let's keep working hard and move toward the future!
