Thien Scofield fenced in Y10 Men's Epee and came out 6th out of pools. He fenced well and missed making the top 8 by one touch, 9-10! He fenced hard and is now more focused to keep working hard!
We had some time and were able to go to the City Museum in St. Louis, MO where Coach Sorah along with Thien Scofield and Zoe Kim had a blast climbing everywhere and sliding down 10-story slides!!! It's always good to have fun and enjoy fencing both on and off the strip at the tournaments! Looks like we have another place to visit during Summer Nationals!
In Y12 Women's Epee, Zoe Kim had a rough time in a tough pool and only won 1 bout, but showed great resolve in her first DE against a fencer she lost to in pools. She was down 9-5 and fought her way back, inch by inch, touch by touch, to get to 13-14. She then followed through and tied the bout in remarkable fashion. Instead of being satisfied with her accomplishments thus far, she buckled down and won the bout 15-14!! She fenced very well and lost her next bout, but she finished 15th out of 21 and never gave up! What a great example!
Natalie Leung, from Swords Fencing, had a tough weekend, but fought well throughout! She gained great experience and lost many close bouts, but has only been fencing less than 6 months! Jonathan Oh also fenced in Y12 Men's Foil and earned his first SYC medal ever with a 7th place finish! Coach Sorah had a fun time helping Jonathan as much as she could and saw him fight back and finish strong out of 43 fencers! Great job to all and congratulations to all their fencers and their families!
